What is Focus on Birth exactly?

Focus on Birth is a growing library of birth stories and our photography that together will form a resource and guide for women interested in a natural, unmedicated childbirth.

Who is behind Focus on Birth?

A team of two friends and photographers, Amanda & Julie.  You can read more about us here.

Is this a blog or a book?

Both!  We are passionate about helping women find information and encouragement for having a natural birth.  One of the best ways to find information is online, but we would love to publish a collection of these stories and our photography in the future.

I’ve had a natural unmedicated childbirth, how can I help?

If you are interested in your story being featured on our blog or future published collection of birth stories, and photography…contact us!  Your unique voice and story will help other moms learn even more about natural birth.

Why are you only featuring natural childbirths?

We know and treasure the most important part of any birth is a safe and healthy mother and baby!  And at this time, we know that women searching for more information about a natural unmedicated childbirth have limited options.  That is why this blog will feature only these types of stories.

CONTRIBUTOR QUESTIONS

Do I have to live in one of the areas listed (north eastern North Carolina cities) to take part in the interview and birth story portion?

No.  We’d love to feature your birth story and personal photos as part of this growing resource…no matter where you live!  The more stories, the better our readers will be encouraged and informed in their journey of natural childbirth.

Do I have to live in one of the areas listed to take part in the photography sessions?

Yes.  At this time, we’re only able to travel within the areas we have listed on our contact page.

When should I apply to participate in this project?

As soon as you are trying to conceive and seriously considering a natural birth, contact us!  We’d love to chronicle your whole pregnancy through photos, and interview you as your due date approaches.  If you are already pregnant, the best time to apply is during your first trimester, but we will accept applications up through the last month of pregnancy.

Will I be paid for sharing my story?

We truly appreciate all of the inquiries to help with this amazing project!  We are so excited to feature such a wide variety of birth stories.  If you share your story, we would love to show our appreciation in the following ways:

• Blog contributors will be offered discounts on a photography session (any type) with one of us*.
• If your story is chosen for publication, you will receive a signed copy of the book!
• Discounted sessions and photos will be provided to women participating in the project within our area.
